Mrs. Johnston, HS
Mrs. Johnston (High School Integrated Science Course 2 [NGSS-based], Water Science)
Mrs.
Johnston
graduated from UCR with a Bachelor of Science in biology. She was
granted a fellowship through the departments of Toxicology and Molecular
Biology to participate in a joint research project with Glaxo Wellcome
Pharmaceuticals in Berkhamsted, England. Following Mrs. Johnston's
return to the states, she was active in community service and raising
her two children.
Mrs.
Johnston began her teaching career in 2002 instructing life and
physical sciences to middle school students. She holds teaching
credentials in multiple subjects, G.A.T.E., CLAD, as well as supplements
in math and science. In addition, Mrs. Johnston has received training
from A.V.I.D., Assessment Training Institute, Life Long Learning,
Inc., and Azusa Pacific University. She recently earned a secondary
credential to teach biology at high school level. Since then, she
has enjoyed teaching Biology and Life Science at the AAE.

Mr. Bailey, HS
Mr. Bailey(HS Chemistry Core, HS Honors Chemistry Core, High School Integrated Science Course 2 [NGSS-based], HS Year Book )
Steve
Bailey received a BA in Biological Sciences with a minor in chemistry
in 1985 from CSU Stanislaus. He spent the next two years studying
a population of lizards while enrolled in the biological sciences
program in the graduate school of New Mexico State University in
Las Cruces, New Mexico. Upon his return to California, he worked
as a chemical analyst in an EPA certified test facility in Modesto
while waiting to enter a teacher certification program. Since 1990,
Mr. Bailey has enjoyed teaching all levels of Biology and Chemistry
to High School and College Students in Barstow and Fort Irwin.
Mr.
Bailey strives for excellence from himself and his students and
continually helps students understand and challenge themselves to
understand and appreciate the nuances and connections between the
different disciplines of the sciences and the importance of the
sciences in our daily lives. In 1996 He took a 3-1/2 year "hiatus"
from teaching while he worked for San Bernardino County Schools
on several technology projects which gave him the opportunity to
work closely with teachers in many different schools around this
region of southern California. He has been back in the classroom
since 2000 working on creative ways to help students understand
and master difficult chemistry skills and concepts.
